cymbals in the mix

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

cymbals in the mix

Unread post by i like tictacs » Mon Nov 15, 2004 8:22 pm

how loud do you think cymbals should be mixed in, or mic'ed? on some albums i can't even hear them, but on others they are clear all the time. my band is having a dillemma with how to mix them in there. BK, anything on the subject?

There really isnt too much anyone can say, you just have to try different positions. For my band when we play live, we just use four 57 mics. One on the left of the set (a little bit above the hi hat) Another on the upper left. Then one on the upper right and one on the far right. I hae a similar set as Carter so the my cymbals pretty much surround my set a full 180, so having four mics in those certain angles help take everything in.

If you tell me where and what cymbals he has, I might be able to see where I would put things to get the most sound in the most convientient places.
