warwick corvette natural finish quest.

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

warwick corvette natural finish quest.

Unread post by i am sam2 » Mon Aug 09, 2004 2:25 pm

ok, ive got a warwick corvette (standard) and it has the natural finish, so i wax the body surface at least once a week, but ive noticed one thing: from my playing, there is a discoloration/faded color of the finish right where my thumb rests against the wood when resting on the neck pickup. this same sort of discoloration is also where my thumb rests against the wood while resting on the E string, just to the neck side of the neck pickup(just from playing). i always make sure the apply a sufficient amount of wax in these places but it still seems to rub back into this faded discoloration.

so i was wondering if a) this is bad for the bass itself, other than the color, obviously and b) if anyone has a remedy for this

You probably wore down the actual finish of the guitar(because it's a satin finish I believe) and that makes it seem sort of black/grey colored.. I don't know, i'd have to see it, but that's just my opinion

It's just oil rubbing off. Happens to me too. Doesn't affect the tone, so I don't really mind. I don't know how to go about fixing it though.

I always wipe it down with a clean towel after I'm done to get all the shit from my hands off, and it really stops the...erosion, if you will

You have to wax those things once a week?

I don't even remember the last time I wiped down a bass after playing it . . .

yeah, its a natural finish, not satin or transparent high polish(like, say, a gibson les paul)...the satin finishes are completely sealed so they dont need waxing.
just the price you pay for having the "natural" feel of a warwick bass

Yeah, I guess I'm used to basses with a solid painted finish, with an additional protective layer of smudges and fingerprints.

The natural thing would be kind of cool, although if I had one I'm sure it would start to collect an interesting pattern of discoloration. I think I just need durable instruments.

The thing I like about the wood is that you can iron out all the dents and thus, it is always in good condition minus the oil rubbing off.

I got a ding on the body of my P-bass, and there are some scratches starting to form, and I kind of like it . . . . .
