bassballs filter

ok im thinkin about getting an electro harmonix filter called bassballs. i was wonderin if anyone has one of these or any experience and if there is anything i should know. also, for anyone, whats the difference between a "filter" a "compressor" an "effects pedal" etc...there are so many...

don't know about the former two, but effects are effects

so the pikcup get the sound waves and turn them into elctric pulses which go theough the chord which goes through the pedal.

each effect will do whatever it's suposed to do. like for example, the wah will give it a wah sound. you can change the level of the effect on all the effedct pedals, and there are some other thins too

haha yeah i knew the effects pedal stuff i was just wondering how they differ from compressors and filters, thanks anyway tho.

Depending on the use of the word "filter", I would assume it refers to a device that would filter out sound at various frequencies that you can define. I would say that this would probably not be needed for a bass. A compressor serves the purpose of clamping peaks, either from an instrument or from the effects chain, to prevent the peak from causing a distorted track, or to prevent the volume from varying too much. Many compressors can also boost lower volume-frequencies so that the sound is more full. An effects pedal, as noted, does exactly what it is named - a volume pedal just changes the volume back and forth, a distortion pedal distorts the frequencies of the audio coming from the instrument, etc.
