New Stefan Interview

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

what credit should he get? (not arguing with you, just asking your opinion)

He doesn't get enough recognition. I just had a whole argument with someone on the bridge about it. I don't want to delve into that here.

nah no argument necessary, i agree with you actually...one thing i do have a question about tho....on the live DVDs/CDs when it lists each song and says who wrote it, when it says something like "David J Mattews, Stefan Lessard, and Leroi Moore" does that mean all three of them wrote the lyrics or what? i mean, how come some are just dave and some are the whole band and some are just a few of them??

Dave likely wrote all the lyrics, and Dave, Stefan and Leroi all made major contributions to shaping the music. On most songs you'll see Dave credited as the only songwriter, so what likely happened there is Dave brought in a full composition on the guitar and the band added their own parts (arrangements). Where 3 or all 5 of them are credited, the music probably came out of those particular guys jamming together, or each of them contributed a specific part and they put them all together to make one song.

For example, on Dreaming Tree, I'm assuming Stefan brought the bass riff to Dave, and Dave put the chord changes and lyrics/vocal melody over it. This represented a "song" composed by Dave and Stefan which they took to the band, and the band added their own arrangements.

I don't think there is a "set formula." The people in the band can give credit to whomever they feel deserves it, but basically, you ask "who is just adding parts to a song" and "who is responsible for really creating the song that the rest of the band is working with."

I can't wait to see what Dre will do with this album. He is an amazing producer. I also want to see what he'll do with carter. Stefan tells it like it is, no bullshit. He doesn't sugar coat like everyone else, which is why i <3 his interviews.
