kinda metly sounding?
kinda metly sounding?
am i the only one who hears/feels a kind of "metally" sound(not metal the type of music, i mean metal the material) when i play a bass like the eb musicman or the warwick corvette fna jazzman? i think it might have something to do with the exposed metal on the bridge pickups, or maybe that big metal pickguard on the musicman. anyway, is this true or am i crazy?

I haven't played the Warwick, but I think I know what you mean regarding the Musicman Stingray . . . It doesn't have to do with the exposed pole pieces on the pickups, but it does have to do with the pickups, their placement (compared to, say, a Fender P-bass), and the active preamp inside the bass.kopie101 wrote:am i the only one who hears/feels a kind of "metally" sound(not metal the type of music, i mean metal the material) when i play a bass like the eb musicman or the warwick corvette fna jazzman? i think it might have something to do with the exposed metal on the bridge pickups, or maybe that big metal pickguard on the musicman. anyway, is this true or am i crazy?
What I think you're talking about is the sound of the string slapping against the frets. You hear it most when you're slapping, but it is there even if you're playing fingerstyle, it just isn't as present. The position of the pickup on the Stingray is making those frequencies more present, and its preamp tends to boost the frequencies even more. Now, take a Fender P-bass and turn the tone knob all the way up. You'll still hear those sounds, but they will be masked by a thicker lower midrange tone, so they aren't as obvious.
If this isn't the metaly sound you're talking about, then never mind
