Would you believe......

........that I went into my local music shop to pick up the Martin D-16rgt I ordered and ended up buying an Ovation instead? I've always hated those plastic back pos's.........or so I thought. But then I picked up a Standard Elite LX, and I can hands down say its the nicest thing I've ever played. I've never heard anything sound better plugged in (I perform), and acoustic tone wise it spanked the D28 on the wall. It of course didnt have quite the same volume that the martin had, but in all honesty it sounded better. Maybe I've bought the only great ovation on the face of the earth, but I won't soon be trading it in. Who wouldve guessed.......

my friend has a pretty nice Ovation LTD, and while its no Taylor, it is a pretty guitar.

Yes, my buddy plays an ovation. Unplugged it sounds like a Fischer Price guitar, like plastic poo. But plugged in, it sounds amazing. :) But I think I will still go with the Taylor 914ce. :)

Uh, to each his own I guess. :) Glad you found something that works for you though...presumably at a significant cost savings as well.

In the end I probably ended up saving a couple hundred off what I was going to pay for the Martin. I think it was going to be about $1100, and the Ovation was right around $900 after I bought a case for it. All in all I'm pretty pleased.
