Hi
I'm about to buy my first acoustic guitar, but i dont know which type i should chose. A nylon or a guitar with steelstrings ? I dont know the name for those, just the german ones. Guess the steelstrings one is called western and the nylon one is called classic guitar. Could anyone give me some tips and enlighten me
I thought of a maximum investment about 250€ (think its a little less than 300$) Can i get good guitar for the next years with this, because i dont want to buy a guitar, which i'm not pleased with, when i get better.

Yup Nylons are often referred to as Classic / Spanish guitars , if you wanna play stuff like Dave and other rock types , i would say go with a Steel string / Western , nylon guitars are more finger playing guitars as far as i know , i do know a guy who likes using a pick on it though

Go for classical if that's either A.) how you're training/going to be trained or B.) want to learn fingerpicking.
Anything other than that, go acoustic.
Believe me, fingerpicking on a classical is a lot easier. The transition to acoustic once it's mastered is not as difficult.

My advice? Forget guitar and play the violin or sax. You'll be much more in demand as far as playing in a band. I seriously wish I had picked up either one instead of guitar. There's too many damn guitarists.

if you want to play guitar, get an alvarez RD8 for about $140. best guitar for the price.
classical guitars also have wider necks and larger frets usually.

seagulls are pretty good choices, too.
i'd recommend getting a classical. you can't strum for shit, but it is harder to play. it's better to go from hard to easy than from easy to hard. i started out on my crappy 90 dollar yamaha nylon and i don't regret it a bit.

I'd have to say get an Epiphone...that was/is my first guitar and it has not disappointed me...you could easily get one in your price range. They are quite good for beginner/intermediate players...try one out see what you think.

First, thank you for your replies, but now i'm a bit confused. Is the sound of a classic guitar very differnt from a western ? I dont mind if its harder to learn, but i'm more into music like Dave's than stuff like flamenco.
