String Buzz

Unread post by Pacs » Mon Feb 16, 2004 11:01 am

Hey all still new to the forums so whats up...
Anywho, I just got into playing guitar over xmas. Parents ended up buying me an Alvarez AJ-60ce from my neighbor down the street. The guitar is in good shape and it doesn't look like its warped or nothing. Looks pretty much brand new. Only thing is the Low E string buzzes like a mother, espically in drop D. How can I fix this? Guitar came with Gibson Lights on it, so I swapped on the Elixer Extra Lights nanos and it still buzzes. I know there is a bolt or something in the neck of most guitars to adjust the pitch or angle of the neck of the guitar (still new sorry, i'm learning). This guitar don't have one. So what can be done to fix this if anything? Other than that the guitar sounds great... thanks.

if your guitar is buzzing than you should look into getting a higher bridge or having your frets checked out. buzzing usually occurs after a fret has been worn down after a while of playing. before you go out and try to hav your frets replaced buy a higher bridge and see if that makes any differenc at all. if it does than your good to go otherwise find the fret that the string buzzes at and have it replaced.

It sounds like the buzz is coming from the body of the guitar off one of those frets. That's where the noise is the loudest and I can't tell if that is because the sound is just bouncing out of the resonate hole. Know I also hear humidity may be an issue but it has always done this on the low E.

What positions is the string buzzing at? Open, first postions, middle of the neck..ect... How low is the action right now? How much of the saddle is showing above the bridge? Have you tried adjusting the truss rod?
