Fret problem

Fret problem

I'm a guitar n00b, I started about two weeks ago. My neighbor gave me his old guitar he doesnt use anymore (joy!) but the fret bars are REALLY short (compared to my friend's guitars), so short it makes it really hard to hammer or rise or anything. Whenever I try, the sound just dies.

How can I correct this?

keep playing, because it's hard to do anything when you're just starting out...it'll be fine

Maybe I should clarify... I can do it just fine on my friend's guitar, but not on mine.

take it to your local shop, might have to be refretted if they are that worn down

"Refretted"? That doesn't sound good... or cheap for that matter. But if it will help...

If it's a shitty guitar than don't bother. Just save up for a new one.
Refreting is a common fix with older guitars so it's not obnoxiously expensive like resetting a neck.

yep a refret may be in order. Can't say without seeing the guitar, but a refret, depending on where you live, and who you get to do it, can run anywhere from $150-$400

that avatar is bad ass boarderboy!! i love mega man...even though zero is clearly the better of the two...x comes close with his decked out armor and stuff..but you can't stand up to zero. its all about the SNES X series. 8)

Why would you need to be doing a bunch of hammer ons if you've only been playing 2 weeks?
