Finally Getting my Martin!
Finally Getting my Martin!
Well, its took three years of playing everything else under the sun, but I finally put in my order for a Martin D16 RGT this morning at my local shop.
I almost feel like I'm stealing it though, because they're being so great to me. I've played a Dean Exotica QSE for about the past year and a half, but then about a month ago I realized the bridge was comming off so I took it to my local shop/dean rep. They sent it out to dean for me free of charge, and in three weeks I got back my guitar......except rather than fixing it they gave me a brand new Dean! Needless to say, I was pretty excited about that.....putting a years worth of playing into a guitar then getting a new one for free. Then something horrible happens.....after three days of playing the new one (tags were still on it) the same thing started to happen to the bridge. I take it back to the music store (where I didnt even buy it), and the guy im dealing with offers to get me a better model Dean. I decline and say that I'm done with that company, and that my next purchase will be a Martin from them, and suddenly he changes his tune and says that he can get the store $500 credit for the guitar, and use it for their next Dean purchase, and in return give me $500 in store credit. Upon hearing this, I put it my order for my Martin and when it gets here I'm only going to end up paying between $600 and $700 for it. Two months ago I couldnt have sold my guitar for $200, but now I'm getting full retail........This is the best day of my life......

I might really like Taylor's, but I've barely every played any, so I can't comment on which sounds better. What I can say though, is that I'm a big fan of Indian Rosewood, and the 310 Taylor's don't have it. And I really don't like how you have to get all the way up to the 900's before it's even an option (other than limiteds that is).

actually there are the 400R EI rosewood limiteds, the 700 EI..., and the 800 EI's before the 900 series.

yeah but consider the differencematttherevelator41 wrote:yea, but compare those prices to the D-16RGTshane wrote:actually there are the 400R EI rosewood limiteds, the 700 EI..., and the 800 EI's before the 900 series.

only the 400's are limiteds - hence the R and limiteds being only after them.DMBFan63 wrote:those are limiteds, correct? He said besides limitedsshane wrote:actually there are the 400R EI rosewood limiteds, the 700 EI..., and the 800 EI's before the 900 series.

I'm not by any means trying to start something, but how can you say something like "consider the difference" when you don't even own a taylor or a martin? I know playing a model or two of each at a guitar center might make one guitar or the other seem superior, but broad generalizations like the ones you make don't make much sense to me. I could see you if you've played both brands for years, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've played a $180 alvarez that sounded as good as the Martin D-28 sitting beside it, and I know that may be a fluke, but it just seems foolish to critique something you don't have much real world experience with. Like I said though, it's not my goal to ruffle any feathers, I just constantly see people putting guitars on a pedestal even though they don't have much experience with them, and it annoys me to no end.
