Martins and Taylors are good but why is everybody always so quick to jump on their bandwagon. There are a handful of luthiers that make wonderful handmade guitars for a minimal amount more than your high end martin or middle range Taylors. I guess everyone wants to have that name on the headstock. I urge anyone who is getting a new high end guitar to question martin/taylor and check out some guitars with better craftmanship and character. I have a d-15 thats really nice for what it is but when I drop 2k in the future it's not gonna be on somthing thats a dime a dozen. Rant over.

How can you jump on a bandwagon thats been around for over 150 years?MWR wrote:Martins and Taylors are good but why is everybody always so quick to jump on their bandwagon. You are def correct on a few things, but you also have to remember a few others. If you are looking for a Dreadnaught, there are reason's that every guitar review will innevitably(sp?....it's late) compare that dreadnaught to a Martin. They've been doing it for so long. In a review of some of the top $2,000+ List Prices Dreadnaughts.....which included some not-so-famous guitar makers(this was by a popular guitar magazine...which I can't remember tha name of).........it said of the D-28 that it reviewed, "Not suprisingly, it was the only guitar that sounded Like A Martin"MWR wrote:Martins and Taylors are good but why is everybody always so quick to jump on their bandwagon. Those other guitars will sound great and yes, they will be well worth the price, but Martin knows what they are doing(not that the other people don't of course). HD-28V, HD-28, D-28, D-35, HD-35.....they are all a dime-a-dozen for a reason, and it's not JUST because Martin is so famous(well, I guess it is because they are famous....for making great guitars but that's besides the point).....think about that before you buy your guitar for a "minimal amount more."
DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that your opinion is wrong or invalid. I am just creating a discussion to which a different point of view has been expressed. Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion and no one is wrong.........(this is of course because no one on a message board will convince each other that they are wrong...everyone will stick to their opinion regardless and just argue till the cows come home like morons thinking they can eventually change the other person's mind by stating how wrong they are)
DISCLAIMER #2: I am not saying that everyone here is morons......morons is such a harsh word, idiots probably fits better

great way of putting it. i like vanilla more cuz it seems more pure if that makes any sense. i like taylors more cuz of the feel.MWR wrote:I think Martin and Taylor make great guitars. Just like I think chocalate and vanilla are great flavors of ice cream. I was trying to let people know that there are a lot more flavors out there.

I like BMW's more because they are made to be DRIVEN as Martin's are made to be PLAYED......Mercedes are great cars but are there for more of the luxury appointments and to be DRIVEN IN as Taylor's are made to look better and feel a little nicerBigSpeen3436 wrote:great way of putting it. i like vanilla more cuz it seems more pure if that makes any sense. i like taylors more cuz of the feel.MWR wrote:I think Martin and Taylor make great guitars. Oh, don't get me wrong....I fully understood that but when you said "why is everybody so quick to jump on the bandwagon" it kinda occured to me that you were saying, "they are good.....but they aren't as good as everyone says just because they are famous" no worries...peace manMWR wrote:I think Martin and Taylor make great guitars.
