**Guitar Center**

Unread post by matttherevelator41 » Mon Feb 02, 2004 1:48 pm

I heard a couple of you guys talking about how you negotiated the price of your guitar with a salesperson at guitar center. I am thinking about gettin a new guitar and was just wondering what exactly did you say to get them to lower the price? Any tips that will save me a few bucks would be sweet.

Go in there and say, "I will give you [insert amount you want to pay here.] for that guitar. Be reasonable, don't take off like $500...lol.

You could also say, "What is the lowest you could possibly sell this to me if I buy today?" That worked. I got a guy to drop $450

I recommend doing a search on the Taylor Guitar Forum for the words "Guitar Center" or "Negotiating"

Here are a few threads I pulled after a quick search:

http://www.taylorguitarforum.com/forums ... tar+Center

http://www.taylorguitarforum.com/forums ... egotiating

http://www.taylorguitarforum.com/forums ... r+employee

Those are a good place to start.

If you can walk in and show them the cash (actual cash) that you're willing to pay right then... then that might give you the upper hand. That's what I've done when I want to go buy a guitar. I do my research to see what I could resonably get it for. Then I get the top dollar I'm willing to pay in cash and then just walk in and shoot the crap for a little bit, tell em "I'm willing to take this guitar off you right now for "$x" cash" and then take it from there. It's worked for me as long as I'm reasonable in the price I'm willing to pay.

i think jrm has a good idea.

i bet if you walked up to a guy and showed him the cash, saying "it will be the quickest sale you'll make today"...he'd go for it, because i would bet anything they work on commission.

Whenever I go to my guitar center I tell them what my price range is and they always grad a calculator, and they take off, I believe 15%. Most retailers up the price about 25% just so they can make the price lower for you, but not enough so they don't make a profit. It's not that hard to get them to bring the price down, it's nothing that they're not use to ;-)

I actually didn't negotiate at all. I just looked innocent but street-savvy (i.e. look like you know more than power chords; LIOG works well) and that was about it. I knew what Martins went for and knew that that was a great price, not to mention in my price range.

Find a local dealer that sells the brand you want. Most of these guys HATE Guitar Center, and will totally undercut them. For example, when I was in the market for a guitar last year I went to Guitar Center and got a price of $2450.00 on a 2003 614ce with the new ES. I went to a local Taylor dealer and the first thing he asked was how much THEY (GC) wanted. I told him, he went to get the latest price list and said, "I'll give it to you for 1850." After I picked myself off the floor, I told him I would be in touch.

ask them they're price, then say 'ok thanks, but daddys junky music has in on sale for ____ so.....'
get them to compete with each other.

Free Stuff

Unread post by dmbDMBdmb » Tue Feb 10, 2004 4:10 pm

When i bought my acoustic instead of trying to get money off i had them throw in free stuff...like a strap, elixers, a really nice bag, and a cable. Instead of getting price lowered bargain with some free stuff.

I go went to there at the End of the Labor Day sale and they had so much stuff down. Go at the very end of a sale. Not only will they lower the price, they will also throw in a lot of free shit too
