Need suggestions

Unread post by pearljammer » Sun Feb 01, 2004 10:52 am

I've been taking lessons for a few months now and can now play quite a few songs and wouldn't necessarily consider myself a "beginner" anymore(i've actually been playing for about 5 years). Anyway, all i've been playing with is an Epiphone acoustic guitar that and an old Yamaha. I think i'm ready to shell out some bigger bucks and get a good guitar. I've been looking around a bit, and I LOVE the sound of some of the Martin guitars. However, the ones i've been trying out are slightly out of my price range. Anyone have opinions on the quality of some of the lesser priced Martins? My local dealer only has the higher priced Martins. Also, what are your opinions/recommendations on Takamine, Alvarez, and Taylor guitars? Thanks in advance.

Edited: I've been reading up on the forum(i'm new here) and noticed that people have found the Martin D-15 for under $700. Is there any place online that sells them that cheap? I don't have a Martin dealer in my immediate area except for this one place that's WAY over-priced.

If you can't afford any of those martins, you might as well take Taylor out. The only thing under $600 is the 110.. which isn't worth it.

As far as the lower end Martins... bleh. The ones I've played I didn't like...No experience with the d-15 though..

Takamine & Alvarez both make great guitars. You could get some great deals for them... Check out some Seagulls also

Ha I started out with the same guitars. I bought a Yamaha first then an Epiphone. I gave away the Yamaha last month and still have my Epi! I like my Epi alot but it is in dire need of a tune up.

low end martins and Taylors arent too great (i love Taylors though)

HOWEVER

i love my alvarez RD20S. everyone who plays it thinks its incredible, one guy says he even likes it better than the martins hes played. it only cost me $200 too. its more than worth it.

I live in New Port Richey but I work in Clearwater, so perhaps the Clearwater one is closer. Do they have a site that I could get directions off of?
