Takamine acoustic VS. Ep. Les paul

Unread post by Skankerton » Fri Jan 23, 2004 10:53 am

Alright, so my friend wants to trade my Takamine PT106 acoustic electric for his semi tricked out Epiphone Les Paul. This would seem like a no brainer, but I learned how to play on the tak and I bought it in japan so Im kinda attached to it. I now own a taylor 414rce 2003 limited so I really dont play the old bastard anymore. Whaddya think?

les pauls are pretty sweet and if iit is in good condition and you don't play your takamine anymore then trade him. but if you have no intrest in playing electric than don't bother.

I recently got a PRS santana SE and i thought i would love it but i still play acoustic more, so do whatever feels right

It depends. I got an electric about a year after i started playing(acoustic) and I'm not sure it was the best move. I didn't really play it that much. Now after playing for over 2 years and expanding my taste in music, I wish I never would have sold it. Do you like playing electrics? If so, I would jump on that offer

les pauls are great. They are my favorite electrics (hence why I have one). If you like to play electrics, get it. You always want to have an acoustic though.

If you've never played an electric.. it'll be a hit or miss.. there is a certain elegant simplicity to playing an acoustic guitar that you will not find when playing electric. I very enjoy playing any type of guitar just because each type and individual guitar have their own nuissances that are fun to find and essentuate. But, then again, I started on a electric, playing jazz for several years before I ever touched an acoustic.

Well, thats the thing. Ive never really played electric before, so whenever I pick one up Im kinda lost. I was hoping this would expand my playing a little bit. The stuff I write needs a healthy dose of nuts, and maybe learning some electric will give it some.

i know how that is. i go to a guitar store to try out electrics and i sit there, blanked out, because it feels different and in a way is different.

having one will expand your playing if you stick with it. as geekmug said, there are nuances to every type and style of guitar that you learn along the way, and i'm looking forward to when my electric gets here.

as for the guitar trade, i'm not sure how much Epiph Les Paul's go, but if you do make the trade, consider changing the pick-ups and having it set-up in a store because Epiphone's and lower end Gibson's have a lot of problems and don't sound that great sometimes. also take a look into Godin guitars and G&L if you're looking for something cheap to start you out.
