Elixir Mediums

Unread post by PlayLikeDave » Wed Jan 21, 2004 12:30 pm

Can anyone say garden hoses for strings? These things are massive. I am getting lights/extra lights next time.

Anyone else have anything to say about Elixir mediums or which elixir they prefer (if elixirs are preferred)?

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

Yeah, they're F'ing huge, I always used the Extra Lights. But now I find myself playing D'Addario Extra Lights, and it's saving me $6 a pack :-). I would try to invest in those if you haven't, I love them!

I've noticed that as well... play a thicker gage string and then go back, or to, and smaller gage string. It makes playing so much easier. Easier to hold down, and it comes in clearer once you realize that you don't have to worry about straining yourself to hold down the strings, but maybe that's just me, ;-)

I love Elixir mediums, that is all I use. I've never had any problems with them and they produce a great sound.

Man, the elixir debate could go on forever.

Personally, I don't like them at all. I don't like how they feel and I don't like the sound. It's very hard to describe, but to me, they just don't sound 'right.' I think I prefer uncoated strings, but if I had to use them, I'd go with the D'addario EXP's. I have them on now, and they are not too bad. They at least feel like acoustic strings to me. I am going to try some EJ16's next.

Elixirs last forever though. I don't think I'd like mediums myself, too big.

I have Medium Elixir Nano's on right now. I am content with them. I haven't gotten new strings in nearly a year so I can't really compare right now cuz they sound like the voice of god to me. How come no one here uses mediums? I thought that it was the smart thing to do if you have a Dreadnaught. At least i think thats what Taylor says. Something about neck tension or somethin, but i don't really know what i'm talking about.

I'd probably use mediums if I just strummed a few chords, but the lights are better for me.

I have NO idea how Dave uses those super-lights. No idea.

I use Elixer Mediums on my A&L Dread, really brings out the base... fun slammin, last forever. But i would never use them on any other kind of guitar, I use D'add's extralight's on my Tak, super sweet fingerpicking, clear natural sound. It really depends on what kind of guitar you're using. Even though mediums are pretty much garden hoses, on a dread lights just dont work.

mediums have a really deep "thoing" if you will, i dont like that so much, music sounds a little higher, yet more crisp with the custom lights that i picked up. I would suggest them to anyone. Small and very good response, rather than the "garden hose" effect mentioned earlier
