Got me an amp problem

Unread post by sunglassesatnight » Sat Dec 13, 2003 6:18 pm

Just the other day I got a Washburn WA30 Acoustic amp. Big problem-it hisses like crazy. I don't know what to do about the hiss, I mean it's so bad that it almost overpowers the sound of the guitar. I've screwed with the knobs every which way and nothing gets better. It is tremendously annoying. Also, a side note, I know little to nothing about amplification, so be longwinded. Thanks.

hey! lay off.

I bet the problem is most likely a jack problem. Try different wires, and a different amp with your wires. If it's not the chord or the amp jacks, then it's the pickup or jack on your guitar. The jacks might hae dirt in them, there might being some frizzing in the wires, or some dirt, or such. If you can still not find a problem, go take them to a professional.

peace :)

yes. this sounds about right. only other plausible possibility i can think of (short of saying there is something wrong inside the amp) is that it may be a grounding problem. on my DI box, if i don't have good contact on the outer part of the jack, everything goes nuts.

if you touch the metal part of the jack, while it is hissing, does it stop? if so then it is a problem with grounding.

and if none of those work, try flipping the polarity. I have no clue what it means, and no clue what it actually does, but most amps come with one and when ya flip that little switch it makes a world of difference.

Well, probably should have mentioned this in the first place, but the amp hisses even when there is nothing plugged into it. Just turn it on and there's the hiss. I tried to find a polarity switch but there isn't one. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know anything else? This is driving me crazy and I really don't want to have to return the thing.

sorry, if theres nothing plugged into it, its most definitly the amp

if its picking up radio signals, try a different position in the room, differ ent room, or a differ ent outlet

maybe you need to just break it in or somthin'
take it apart and make sure there are no loose wires

if you get even any slight clues, post them, maybe someone can help you

one more thing, does it hum with the volume knob is all the way down?

It does make the noise when the volume is all the way down. What cold that mean?
