Simon and Patrick
Simon and Patrick
I have a simon and patrick guitar, the same guitar manufacuter as Seagull Guitars, except these ones are more focused on producing a little better guitars. Now, i went to the website for both simon and patrick and seagull, and I was curious to see if the guitar can take medium strings. I'm sure they can, but i don't want to screw up my guitar at all. I know about the truss rod and adjustments, so I'm not concerned about that. The site didn't have a email address so, im kinda tryin to figure out what to do. Do any of you know what I should do??

they can take mediums. I have an Art & Lutherie which is made by the same guys. It's pretty much the same as the Simon & Patrick and the Seagulls. mine has wild cherry back and sides with a solid spruce top. I've used medium strings size 13's since I bought it 3 years ago. no problems.

cedar is softer than spruce and the top will bow if you use heavy strings for too long a time. I'm not an expert on this but I know that its recommended that you use light strings on a cedar top. the mediums won't sound any worse but just that the tension is higher and it pulls on the bridge and may cause the top to bow and maybe even cause cracks. again, I'm not an expert.
