What would you choose?

Unread post by jimii3 » Tue Dec 02, 2003 12:23 pm

I am in the process of a getting a new guitar and I am wondering if I should get a Alvarez AD60, AD90 (whats the sound difference) or go with Takamine around the same price. I also would like to have electronics on it as well.

I know many on this board really like Alvarez guitars, but I would like a opinion on the Takamine, because I have heard many good things about those as well.

Thanks for any help,

Jim

alvarez. honestly i don't know much about the takamines, but id almost put my friends 500 alvarez up to my 900 martin. it doesn't have quite as beautiful of a sound, but it's damn close.

EDIT: not sure about the electronics though. all the alvarez's ive ever played sound better MICed.

Hey thanks for the fast replies, I play a Ibanez pf4 right now and just want something better. I have played a 200 series Alvarez and really like it, but was just wanting a few opinions.

Thanks

Jim

If you have a guitar dealer near you , go visit , play as many guitars as possible , no matter about the brand , listen to what you like the best , and buy it :)

like andy said, get what you like. i havent played very many alvarez guitars but i have heard nothing but good things about them. i have played a few takamines and they were very nice. what it all comes down to is what you think sounds better, and what sound you're looking for.

get what sounds good to you man, if that a tak, awesome, if alvarez, awesome, whatever you choose just make it what you want. i have a tak ean40c, beautiful sounding guitar. one thign though to look for is the wood. if you get a spruce you will get a great acoustic sound and plugged sound too. if you get a cedar topped one liek my tak then you will lose some acoustic sound but the plugged sound is phenominal, almost as clear as myt martin d-35 hah i use the tak at live stuff alot because of its clarity, just play what YOU want and buy what YOU want, just giving you some friendly advise

takamine are hands down some of the best guitars to plug in when it comes to acoustic guitar led bands. they are better then most taylors (most not all), and better then most of the other guitars i've played... they dont sound to great outside of being plugged in... but i bought my last guitar based on the need for performance quality... but i bought a taylor 314ce

I have a Takamine EAN-15c that I love. The cedar top really sets it apart from some other Takamine's I've played. I've played some Alvarez that were just "ok" but the other day I was in Dallas and played an Alvarez md90 that was phenomenal. It held it's own with a wall full of taylors.

fatjack,

You should really play my Tak, it's about as good a playing guitar as I've ever laid my hands on. I know this is borderline sacrilige but I actually play it more than my cocobolo Taylor 814ce!!! It just plays that well! Tonewise, the taylor wins, but the Tak ain't too shabby itself. And it does sound much better plugged in than my fishman on the taylor (but the es beats them all)
