I wouldnt do it on your own unless you knew how to, I think you can screw your guitar up, but theres a topic on it somewhere here that someone just made and they asked how much it costs, I dont know off hand and Im not sure if the post has been answered but Im sure it will be soon and I dont think it costs much.

most guitars have a little nob underneath the fretboard that u can get to through the sound hole. if u have the proper tool u can just twist it and its a quick way to change the action. although, this won't change your action THAT much. if you need a big change done then u have to sand it down. also, this is nice cuz if u bring it down too far and its starts to buzz, u can just move it a little higher

If you mess it up.. you can always have a new bridge put in..
where did you get that advice andy?
I was actually wondering where I got that from. I figured I read it in a book..

I second the fact that this is a bad idea. Only way to properly and safely lower your action yourself is to take out the saddle and sand it down on a flat surface. Make sure you sound the bottom down, not the curved part. If you lower it to much you make receive lots of buzz. You can get it setup for probably around 20 bucks and it might be worth it if you have a decent guitar. Look into a bone saddle also.actually, djs, that doesn't lower or raise the action, that bends the neck.. that is a BAD idea

not to hijack, but my acoustic bass buzzes horribly when i play on the first four frets... i think its somethin with the truss rod.. know anything dudes?

Uhh.. take it and hold the heel end of the guitar up to your face(so the neck is away from your head) and look down the neck.. does it look flat and/or straight? If not, either take it to a guitar store for straightening, or get an hex key(also known as an allen key) and turn the bolt on the headstock(it might also be in the inside of the soundhole) a little tiny bit, and look down, repeat untill it appears straight to you..
