went to guitar center today. greatest couple of hours all weekend. anyway, some basses i played had strings that were really smooth and didn't buzz even when i tried, while some strings sounded very... "clicky" against the fret board. is this just the quality of the strings? or the bass itself or what? i' m lookin to buy a new bass soon, and i'm not sure if i should like buy the guitar regardless of how the strings sound and then buy some warwick strings for it or somethin...i'm confused. :?

I dunno.. maybe some had elixers on em'? Beats me.. hope your question gets answered

what about elixers? i think my acoustic bass has elixers,, and its got that clicky quality... maybe the strings need to be broken in?

I'm guessing that has something to do with the fretboard and not the strings. I'm not really sure what you mean by "clicky" though.

you may have been playing flatwound strings, i love those on bass...

yeah the fretboard does definitly have an influence on the sound of the strings and stuff

i know exactly what you mean... i think it might be the action is higher and you will get a clicky sound and if its relatively low, itll be smoother

i think the best solution would have been to just ask one of the sales associates at the music store. they'll be able to better explain the individual models and all.
