12 String...wow!

Unread post by Halcyon » Tue Nov 11, 2003 4:13 pm

I just got in from the good ol' Guitar Center and while I was there I decided to mess around with some of the 12 stringers. As most of you might have noticed in the title....wow! I'm getting one shortly. I just need some help on choosing one. I'm short on money right now so I figured I would get a cheaper one (around $200) to screw around on until I could pick up a nicer one. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

I found some Stellar 12 strings for cheap ($130) but I've never heard of them....anybody know anything about them?

Thanks for the help!!

Martin J12-15

What do you guys think of the Martin J12-15? It gets some rave reviews, and is slightly under 700 dollars. A 12 string martin for that cheap? It's gotta be good! Or what about a Washburn for the same price?

Get an Alvarez AJ60-12 or a Takamine. I just bought the Alvarez used and it is pretty fun to screw around on. I need to get Elixers put on though........just feels better. Jumbo body with Maple makes it sound bright without being "tinny" sounding.

I played a Tak two weeks ago. Didn't sound too bad. I can't think of the model, but it was a jumbo cutaway. Has a lighter color to it.

If also heard nice things about the Washburn J28S12DL Cumberland 12-String Guitar. Pretty similar to the Alvarez. May be worth checking out.

I've played two Washburn 12's. The D46SCE12 is really nice and its around $700 and the D10S 12 is a little cheaper but still a pretty nice guitar for around $300.

I am absolutely in love with 12 strings. I just got back from a guitar store..

I played an Alvarez and a Washburn(no idea what models), both soundling beautiful. JTR sounds so much better on a 12..

I have the six string version of the Tak jumbo cutaway and I love it. The twelve is equally as awesome. Save for it. Model EG-523SC and not outrageously priced at all.

when you buy a 12 string, buy a good quality one mostly over 500 bucks, so it will last and the neck problems won't be that much.

do they design the necks in 12-strings to be a little bit more sturdy than the regular 6-strings or are both necks basicallly the same?
