Want to buy a Western Guitar, don´t know which one..

Unread post by casta » Tue Nov 11, 2003 2:59 pm

Hi,

i´m new on this board, so greets to everyone at first :)
Please excuse my bad english, i´m german and i´m still learning....

This is really a great Page...my Respect, nice Tabs!

I write this poste because i hope someone could help me with my problems.
I want to buy a Western Guitar to Xmas, i think the sound is better than a "normal" accoustic. I started playing Guitar on a Spanish One maybe 2 years ago.

One important reason why i want to buy a Western Guitar is the Sound of the Dave Matthews Band (it´s too damn good...) and i think the Sound of a Western Guitar is good for playing things "like that" (i mean this style/type of music)

Now my question: For what do i have to look for? Which models of Western Guitars are good, i don´t want to pay more than 350 Euros (around 350 Dollars), which one has a similar sound as Dave´s Guitar?

Can you help me out? Is there more i have to look for?

Thanks for answering my questions, have a good Time!

hello there and welcome :)

glad to see somebody new around...

well, down to business:
"Dave sound" for around $350...hmmm...that would be hard...but to get a close sound, any standard steel string dreadnaught would do the trick ;)
...so which one...well...for that price, I would try and find an ALVEREZ
(a few people here have them and they swear by them)...however, you might be better off waiting a little while and laying out a few hundred more and get a good starting level MARTIN...

either way, you will probably be happy, but you might not want to get a cheap guitar and then turn around in a year and want a better one, you know what I mean?

It is a shame you don't have a good $1,700 laying around, or you could land a LAKEWOOD right from your country :)
that is what Dave used on Live At Luther College with Tim Reynolds...

in any case, I wish you well in your venture
and again, welcome :D

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

i agree on all those accounts. i own an alvarez that i paid $260US for the guitar + case and it sounds amazing, however, i would check out lakewoods first. also - check if theres a Taylor dealer in Germany ;)
