electric guitar help please!

Unread post by mboz12 » Sun Dec 15, 2002 4:01 pm

I myself play acoutsic and know nothing about prices(good or bad) for guitars. My little brother plays acoustic and wants to get an electric. He knows a little bit more then me. My question is what are cheap electric guitars and prices that you shouldnt pay over for them. For example he keepos talking about squire strats which are very cheap. Is 140 for a squire a good price? Any help at all would be very appreciatred. His range is up to 200. Hes only 13 but hes very good at acoustic and wants to venture to electric.
Thanks
Mike

I have a squire, got it as an X-mas present so im not sure on the price, but that sounds pretty good. I got mine in a pack that came with a strap, picks, strings and an amp which may be worth looking into.

Squier's are actually decent guitars. You can get a pack with amp and guitar like 6String said, and that's $280. A normal price for just the guitar is about $150. Go to music123.com or musiciansfriend.com and look around on there. The Squier Strat's are Fenders, by the way.

my biggest issue with musical instruments right now is that im not buying anything again until im ready to go all the way. ie: i want a classical guitar. but im not wasting $300 on a decent one... forget that... im getting the Al Di Meola signature series classical guitar., etc...

same with my new accoustic that i'll one day own.. probably nothign under 10,000$

Xoosh, I think the nothing under 10,000 line is a little over the top :) I think you can get a few fine guitars for less than 10,000. Dave doesn't play on anything that costs more than 5,000, I think.

I don't care what anybody says, it's damned near impossible to find a nice looking and nice sounding guitar for under a $1000 am I right or am I right? God even the lowest end Taylor the 310 (well besides the big baby and that shit) is about a grand. The same must go for electrics - I mean you can get a cheap strat copycat for a couple hundred but its pretty much gonna sound lame. I'm not an expert by any means, but if you wanna a good guitar you may as well save up for something good instead of wasting money on some piece of shit. I don't know, that's just my $.000000002

that's not necessarily true.

it depends how you buy it.

I have always been a Fender person utnil I was offered an SG.. for $450 CDN (I couldn't decline!!) at first i wasn't crazy about it, but have come to love it.

of course, the guitar, brand new, costs about $1200, so I can't really complain...

yeah, I wouldn't mind a d15 myself now. It's a great beginner guitar, or guitar period, but after a few years of practicing and getting, hopefully, better and more experienced, your probably gonna want a classier guitar that sounds great. like an Martin hd-28 or Taylor 714 or some shit. I just always use those examples. Larrivee are also very nice and so are lots of others. As for Electrics, well I don't know, I don't like em' cause I can't play em. :D
peace,
Ken
