Unread post by olkskoolpik » Wed Dec 11, 2002 1:36 pm

I have been saving some money for a while now and I was just wanted some advice from some people who knew what they were talking about. If i was looking to buy an acoustic guitar, amp, or anything else i needed, and I had about $800 to spend, what should i buy iim really clueless. Also just for curiosity sake what equipment does Dave use when on tour )not that I think i would be able to afford it or anything) I appreciate the help

Taylor 310's are a good bet at that range. You might have to look around a little to find them at $800, but it's a great guitar for the money. I don't think an amp or electronics are necessarily an essential, but if you do want the electronics, you're not going to find a new Taylor for $800 with the pickup.

If you want electronics, look into a higher end seagull guitars. Great guitars, good wood, LR Baggs equipment, astounding value. I'd say the Taylor for a soley acoustic guitar, or a Seagull for one with electronics. A Martin D-15 or OM-15 is also a good bet.

yeah it definitely is possible. Look at a seagull S6 with electronics and a low wattage fender acoustasonic amp. Do you really need the amp? Because I know a lot of people have them, but they don't really need them, and would have been much better served just investing more in a guitar. If you want the amp, though, definitely go with the Seagull S6 or the like.

you could get a nice fender acoustic amp, an lr baggs i beam pickup, and one of xoosh's D-15's for around 800 or so, 900 max I'd think...

Takamine EG530SC = $420 on music123.com

Fender Acoustasonic Jr 30 Amp = $315 on musiciansfriend.com

That's what i'm getting. Don't forget about cable and guitar strap. You can get it all for under $800. That's gonna be my setup once I save up for the amp.

I think your setup would cost him more than his budget, elliot. Go with Pilot's system, but substitue an S6 with an I beam or the like.

if you're looking for a lower priced guitar. this brand called Garrison is about 4x better then the high end seagulls... for much cheaper. i can get them for you for a really really good price. like around 340 with a hardshell case (and i believe electronics). i played one and liked it a lot more then seagulls and the similar priced takemines.

I've never played the Garrisons, so I don't know about them.

And "about 4x better?" How do you figure that out?? :)

I've heard good things about garrisons I believe, but I haven't played them so I don't know...if they are indeed better than the seagull's at that price then they've got to be one heck of a guitar!

From what i read on other forums... they use a fiberglass bracing system(inside)... supposed to be really revolutionary... and allows them to cut back on cost of production... so they have good quality wood and cheaper cost... most people on the acoustic guitar board really had good things to say about them... all i can say is try one at your local dealer and get the deal from Xoosh... i think either http://www.garrison.com or http://www.garrisonguitars.com for a list of dealers... plenty around me so you will probobly find some around you...
