Guitar Debate

Unread post by olkskoolpik » Mon Aug 18, 2003 2:53 pm

I am in the market for a new acoustic and my range is about $500 and These are the 6 guitars I was looking at. The Martin DXK2 $499 i really like the look of this guitar even though there is no pickguard, the DX1 $479, the 000X1 $479, and the DXM $439. Also the Ibanez AW500 $449, as of right now this Ibanez is the one i am leaning towards most, although the only 2 i have actually played are the DXM, and the DX1, I was just wondering what you guys thought about them respectively and which is the best guitar for the money. All these prices are per Musicians Friend, thanks for the help.

You should be able to get a DX1 for closer to $400. Samash has it for $449, which I think is still high. I got mine from them (local store) for $380. Find the cheapest online price, print it, and bring it in to your local shop and ask them to beat it. $400 for a DX1 is a good price. There are a bunch of recordings from mine in the Recording forum. Hope this helps!

what about yamaha?

i downloaded a vid of dave playing solo in december of 1993, for the premier of his first record. it was in some bookstore, mobbed with people standing shoulder to shoulder.

he was playing some type of yamaha though.

im pretty sure that all those guitars you mentioned are made with laminated wood, and i think that you can find some of the guitars andy mentioned for the same price that have solid wood. but like everyone says, play all of em and buy the one you like. i wouldnt limit myself to just martins, play everything and buy what you like best.

Don't get the DXM. I have one and though it has a nice sound, it lacks projection.

For that money, I would probably look for a nice Tak with a pickup.
