***the boring story behind the main point***

Well, I'm going to stay home for another semester now instead of going to a ridicuously overpriced private school (20G) and I'll be using a state-funded $2500 scholarship I received out of high school to pay for one or two community college courses. Here's how it works though...you register for your classes, the state sends the school the money, takes out the amount necessary to pay for the classes, and then writes you a check for the remaining amount. Cold cash...a couple dumb gen eds at a CC is going to cost about $300 bucks, leaving me atleast two-grand once I pay for books, not to mention the amount of money saved by not going to a private school at this point and the fact that I'll be working a fair amount considering I'll only take 6-9 credit hours. So, how am I celebrating this joyous occasion???

***FENDER CUSTOM SHOP STRATOCASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!***

Oh yes, that is exactly what I am going to do. Even my dad who hates me buying so many expensive guitars didn't mind the idea and he'll probably even chip in some himself. So, now I get to design my dream guitar...here is what I'm thinking...

Elliot's Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster

-The Look...
-Candy Apple Red finish
-gold hardware
-white pear pickguard
-standard white volume and tone knobs
-white pickup covers

-The Sound...
-3 single-coil Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups
-25 db active mid-boost circuit
-a 0-25db boost manually controlled
-volume control (top knob)
-master TBX tone control (middle knob)
-active mid-boost control (bottom knob)
-hard-tail bridge
-I think graphite saddles are the new thing...
-set up for .11's...
-5-way pickup selector

-The Neck...
-flamed-maple wood (oh yes...)
-vintage tone finish
-soft-V shape ('60's shape, pleasantly plump... )
-mother of pearl small diamond inlays
-gold vintage style tuning machines
-I'm being told that the graphite nuts are the way to go as well...
-22 vintage style frets...

So yes, as of now, that's what I'm thinking for my Custom Shop Strat...the electronics are based on Clapton's signature model as I have really fallen in love with that wonderful midboost. Thanks to the custom shop, I can get my favorite aspect of the Clapton strat in MY strat!!! As I don't use a tremolo, the hard tail bridge will be great for keeping strings in tune and I'm told that graphite helps the strings in tune as well if you're bending a lot. I've got a talk a bit more about details with the good folks at elderly, but as of now, I'm pretty set on what I want. This is more or less the guitar of my dreams right now...literally. I'm a lot more of an electric player than an acoustic player at this point and I'm a die-hard strat fan. I love the vintage looks of guitars, so the more "yellow" neck will be great with the classy candy-apple red finish and the gold hardware. The flamed maple neck will just be insanely gorgeous as well...wow, I'm so pumped. Certain things may change, but this is something that I think I'll really love...a guitar that I'd be playing til the day I die. I'm tempted to have some special inlay done, but I'm not really sure what yet...any ideas? Let me know what you think!

well that sounds like a clapton strat with a hardtail right now......... awesome guitar. I was going to make sure you got gold but you already have that..... awesome.

Definately go with an inlay.......... that is the whole point of having a custom guitar.... the custom look!!!! I would definatley get my signature on a fret (12 or 22) and then a simple but different design for the inlays...... ohhhh you make me want to have more money!!!!!

yeah, the electronics on it are very much based on the clapton, as I simply am obsessed with that mid-boost...I love how clean that thing sounds in neck-middle position...crystal clear, then, with the crank of a know, ROAR!!!!!!!! wow, so excited, and yeah, I think I should get something done...signature? hmmm, maybe...I don't know, gotta think about that a bit. I'll have whatever it is on the bottom fret (22nd). but yeah, wow...I'm excited...talking to my dad about it now...I'm going to have everyone just help pay for this with christmas and birthday money (my birthday is 12/26) as well to ease the pain. and sorry to get on the mid-boost again, but...in my rhythm playing, I like the mids cut down pretty low to get a rounder, clean sound (that's why I play mostly in the neck/mid pickup position) but when I want to step up and grind a bit, I want more mid, and I like to keep it simple and I can't adjust it at the amp feasably, so yeah, wow...the mid-boost is just perfect for what I do. So excited...talking even more to dad about all this...wow, I can't believe he's not saying I'm stupid and he's being encouraging!

Its a great idea, as long as you are sure you are short changing yourself educationally. Studen loans are a bitch, I should know. I'll be 120 grand in debt when all is said and done.

hmm... that gold hardware may look weird with any color other than black...

as for the electronics, nice choice on modeling after clapton's guitar, i love his tone. but if you are going to customize it, why not change the pickup setup... my tele has the standard tele bridge pickup and a strat humbucker on the neck, it adds for a really varied sound (and mine is only a 3 way selector) if you changed the setup to include different types of pickups, you could get a lot more variety, especially with a five way...

I'm not a humbucker fan at all to be honest. I'm just not into the tone at all. I love the noiseless pickups. The one thing I may do is have something different installed for the bridge pickup. I really only use the neck and neck/mid pickup positions as I find the others too trebley I guess, however, there are times where I'd like to use just the bridge pickup for things but I can't get a good tone to save my life through the texas specials on my SRV...so I might experiment with that for the heck of it. and I'm trying to find a picture of what this will probably look like...

Oh, and since you obviously won't be needing the SRV strat anymore, can I have it?
