Why!??!?!?!

Unread post by jkanter » Tue Jul 29, 2003 9:08 am

I'm curious why someone would get a 414CE Summer Edition for $1,500(which seems that's the normal price for them)...when for like $1800 or so they could get a HD-35. I guess they serve different purposes but hosently...HONESTLY!!!

heh. i wanted something with the ES to save myself from bothering with electronics for a while. the HD-35 will probably be my next guitar purchase. wanted to get something before the end o' summer too, and i couldn't muster up the extra cash for a 35 by then, anyway. :)

i still love it. don't hold it against me, kanter.

b/c Taylor's are trendy right now, dave matthews primarily plays a taylor, he drives most acoustic guitarists, notice how everyone gets 14 models??? oh yeah, that's what dave plays. remember how everyone wanted a chet atkins? yeah, umm, I got one a couple months back for use with an electric amp to get some dirty acoustic tones, and I'm sorry, but that guitar sucks colossally. it's by far one of the worst sounding guitars I've heard. not only that, the finished neck is just a pain to play. it's all relative to one thing: Dave Matthews. If Dave started playing Takamines more, I guarantee you that Taylor guitars would drop off the map and everyone would be getting Taks.

gcom... umm... no?

Dave hasnt been playing Taylors that long, Taylor has been popular much longer than that. the 30th anniversary is coming up and theyre the dominating guitar company, just like they were when the 25th anniversary rolled around.

heh. dave didn't drive me to get a taylor or a x14 model at all. i spent a long time in the guitar shop playing and finding what would suit my budget best and what would suit my needs the most. the 414 summer edition, to me, is a great buy for what it comes with compared with the taylor higher ends that i couldn't afford for a long while. the 414 "summer strummer" had a sound that i loved, and spared me having to get a pick-up later on. it's simplistic design appealed to me and i loved the grand auditorium shape cuz i'm a puny guy. ;) it was a great acoustic/electric, and i'm not regretting my purchase at all.

so yes, i know that a lot of people will get Taylors because their favorite artist has them, but don't whomp everyone into that generalization, please.

Are you talking about people here or everywhere?...either way thats a bold statement that requires explaining. Also, its hard to argue that one man made them popular when they have been just that for so many years.

I'm assuming he's talking about Taylor's dropping off the map in reference to these boards.......I fully agree with getting Taylor's. They are amazing guitars and can undesrtand why people play them(OBVIOUSLY). I, PERSONALLY, would rather spend the same amount of money on a Martin instead. Hoenstly, it's all about personal preference...they are both amazing guitars

exactly. we can debate these things for hours, but when it comes down to it, the guitar you pick that's going to sound awesome for you might not be the same as the next guy. it's about whether you, not anyone else.

if you don't think there's some correlation to the popularity of taylor's among young people and Dave Matthews playing them, you're kidding yourself. Even the stores will tell you that.
