Guitar Tuning Question

Unread post by tpabrandon » Sat Jul 24, 2010 9:12 am

I have a baby Martin, and I am looking to tune it to sound like a Gyphon (I know the Gyphon is a 12 string) in the high D tuning. Does anyone know what type of strings, I would have to buy in order to get that sound. (For example I was wondering if I would have to use a A string to what would usually be a E, just so I can tune it to the D without the string breaking.) I know this sounds crazy but if anyone has any ideaas could you please let me know.

I don't think it's possible to get the sounds of a 12 string guitar out of a 6 string. No matter what strings you use and how you tune, you still have 1/2 the strings to play with, so you will never have the higher octave. Sorry if this doesn't help, but I just don't think it's possible.
