looking for decent strings for..

Unread post by KGrad5 » Mon Jun 30, 2003 10:20 am

Hey all, im new to these forums, i just had a question reguarding my string. Anyways im semi new to the guitar i guess, i have a yamaha cpx15w, im not sure if this is a good guitar but i really like the sound and the way it plays, http://www.epinions.com/inst-Acoustic_E ... full_specs
anyways, ive pretty much played out the strings and i was thinking of changing them but i really have no clue about what kind of strings to buy, i think whats currently on there is John Pearse Acoustic - set #600L
they are phosphor, bronze wound, light gage, are these any good? what will give me the best sound? im really clueless when it comes to this stuff, hehe i just like to play, anyways thanks a lot for your help
(Edit: i payed around 1500 canadian for the guitar, we kinda bargained it down from 2000, and they threw in a hardshell case and a free set of strings. i was wondering if this was a good price for it? was it worth it? thnx)

howdy you canadian you. there are alot of you folks. goodness. well w/ strings its all about personal preference. im no expert in terms of gauges but i stick w/ lights. now you can go w/ coated or uncoated strings. elixirs are a well known coated string. i just recently tired some elixirs (polyweb) and i liked them quite a bit. ive also play martin marquis (not coated) and they were alright. not bad for the price i guess. i havent found my favorite strings yet but thats part of the fun i guess. just guess and test. have fun. your guitar seems pretty nice buy the way. 8)

Personally, I play Medium guage D'addarios, uncoated. I prefer the thick tone they give (they kinda make up for my crappy guitar). I wouldn't suggest trying anything more than medium lights if you are a beginner. If you want to read which brand people prefer, ad nauseum, do a search on this site for "new strings", "elixirs", etc. etc.

Do you know how to change the strings?

elixers and d'addarios seem to be the 2 camps on these boards....just try them both and see which you like...
