Guitar Trade-In?!?!?!

Unread post by Speenis » Sun Jun 29, 2003 12:30 am

Has anyone ever traded in their guitar to Guitar Center to use the credit towards a new guitar??? I just wanted to know because I am thinking about trading in my 2002 Epiphone Les Paul Classic Blue Quilt Top Limited Edition w/ gig bag(list $999, purchased for $399), my 2002 Marshall MG30dfx (list $349, purchased for $250), an 2002 MXR Phase 90 w/ 9V adapter (list $150, purchased $110), and a 2002 Boss DS-1 w/ 9V adapter (list $120, purchased for $60). All this equipment was bought BRAND NEW in December of 2002. I plan on trading all this in towards a 310 or a 310ce. What does everybody think they will give me as credit towards a 310/ce????

i'd ask them, but you may be better off selling it somewhere else and using the money. because GC will not buy your stuff unless they can sell it for a little more and make some money, which means you are not getting the best price.

Yeah, I was talking to a guy from GC a few months ago, and he said that if you were planning on trading in your current guitar to buy a new one at their store than you would get more for it. Plus, I just got around $860 last night at my Grad Party, so I almost have enough to buy it straight up. Obviously, I would like to keep about half of it for college, cuz I think I might need the money  . I also just got a $80 paycheck and should be getting a $200 paycheck this friday. So, assume I go in to GC on Saturday with $1000 plus all my gear listed in my first post. The 310 that I am looking at costs somewhere around $950. How much money do you think I will be able to get from my gear to use as a trade-in for the 310???? I think I might be able to haggle the salesman down a few bucks too, unless they offer me about $600 for all my gear which probably won't happen. Will the also buy my pedals, I just put those up there because I won't need them and don't want them anymore. BTW, all of my equipment is in mint condition because I used everything about 4 times.

i'd look for each thing on ebay or something so you can get an idea of fair prices.

yeah they do give more, but maybe its just the store that i went to, because neither cash or trade in was a good deal at all...

from any experience I have had/heard of GC, they suck when it comes to pricig Taylors and customer service...if you can, try a more local dealer and see if you can get a new 414es with Rosewood...save up some real cash (it talks when I buy a guitar) and make an offer about the equipment...good luck ;)

College is all about spending money you dont have. :) Theres no need to keep half...just spend it now. You'll be glad you did later.

exactly! cuz then you'll have to be worried about "the real world" and all your financial expenses. my jig is, highschool-college is about getting the excess stuff, because your 'rents are usually paying for the groceries still. ;)

Thanks for the replies everybody, very helpful. Especially the "spending the money you don't have" advice  . I'll have to look more into the higher series. To tell ya the truth, I played all the Taylors(under $2000) my nearest GC had, and I really did prefer the 310. I do not like mahogany wood too much but I don't think Taylor uses it. As for Rosewood, I really can't remember if I liked it a lot, I just remember the spruce sounded really nice. I think I am going to go to some local store in Cleveland, then head out to another GC and Sam Ash on the east side. There is another local store, but its west of me, not in the direction I'm going so I'll have to save that for another day. As it looks right now, this whole week I'm going to be playing all different Taylors (I don't wanna hear try something else, cuz I love their sound a playability, etc.) from a whole bunch of different places, then buying it on Saturday. I just remembered that GC usually has a 4th of July sale, so I might check in to that too. Thanks all, and feel free to leave some more advice.
