Dave's Martin + pickup chain

Unread post by bookbinder » Tue Aug 26, 2008 10:15 pm

does anybody know Dave's pickup and system that he uses on his HD-28v for D&T shows? I've heard Fishman Matrix Natural 2 UST, then through a Countryman DI, but those were just rumors I think. I've also heard that in the past few years he added the Fishman Aura after the UST pickup, but that would mean he's blending with a soundboard pickup or mic, right? can any one get a hold of Monk and get this stuff nailed down?

You can find it on here somewhere if you use the search function on the top right. I would find it for you and post the link but right now I have to get to class. If you haven't found it by the time I get back I'll help you out.

I've tried the search function, but I guess I didn't use the correct words -- I tried "HD-28v pickup Fishman" and didn't get anything that would clue me in. any advice?

For those shows, It's really stripped down. He used to use the Countryman DI but I'm not sure what it is now. I don't know that it matters much. The sound you are hearing live depends a whole lot more on the venue's acoustics and PA than anything else.

Recorded, like Radio City Music hall, I don't think it matters much either since there is likely a lot of post editing and tweaking.

Still, these may help you out a bit.

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I'm finding more and more people saying that Dave uses an HD-28, but I thought it was HD-28v. I did find this highlight from a "rock legend" type book -- more detail on the signal --

I thought he was using the Fishman Gold acoustic pickups but that might be in his Taylors.
