Yeah it sounds like a loop pedal is what you want. If you want to play a whole song and then play over it I would look into the boss rc-2.

They have one called the rc-20xl which has some more features for 69 more.

The one i use is the DL-4. Its a delay pedal that loops 16 seconds of material as well. I bought it cause howie day used it. To be honest, I mostly use it now for the awesome delay effects it has and not the looper.

It its just looping you want, go with the boss.

good luck.

To be honest I have never used the digitech. I do have a digitech bad monkey which is their overdrive and I love it so I can't talk bad about the company.

Its not out yet, but I think the new boomerang is going to change looping and might be worth waiting for..

Check out the "Boomerang 3 Looper" section on that page for more details.

I have the RC-20XL and I love it. If you want to see someone that really knows how to use it check out YouTube and search for Marcus Eaton.

Loop pedals generally do NOT have delay functions on them, correct?

As far as I know. The only one with delay is the DL4 which is much more of a delay pedal with some looping ability. Everything else is strictly looping.

True. The Boss DD20 Giga Delay may also have some kind of hold function but I'm not sure. I really, really like my RC20 Loop Station though and I use it together with a Boss DD-5.

Yeah, I used to have one too. It was nice to be able to loop with it and then use the delay of the DD-5 on top of it, but I always found the 14 seconds very limiting and I was never very impressed with the delays on the DL4. On top of that I actually had two DL4s because my first one stopped working abruptly and I had to get a replacement. Since then I've always thought Line 6 kind of makes crap. I do want to try some of the Tunecore pedals though.

You know i felt the same way about my DL4 until i started playing electric through it. You can get some crazy sounds with it when you have feedback and distortion going but with an acoustic, i think most people would be better off with a dd3 for delays.
