Hey guys. I dont think this is too much of a problem but i noticed this when looking at my guitar at certain angles of light. It might jsut be the finish but its a fairly new guitar and i dont recall seeing it when i got it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guy!

That's not a problem, that's actually considered a good thing depending on who you talk to. It's usually refered to silking or bear claw and is caused by runout in the grain of the wood. Although it is mostly just an aesthetic thing, some swear that wood with bear claw in it sounds better. So in short, congrats, you have a nice top! A lot of people look a long time to find guitars with bear claw in it.

cool well thats good to know. From what your saying i now understand the term bearclaw. I had heard it much before but never even thought to take note to its definition. So thanks for filling me in on that and also for taking the time to respond.

No problem. I remember the first time I saw a guitar with bear claw, I ask one of the store reps what was wrong with it. I didn't really like it at first but now I love it. If I find a particular guitar I want and it has bear claw I'd snag it, I think it's beautiful and distinguishes it from other guitars.

so do you know if this is something that grows over time or is the amount of bear claw i have now more likely to stay the same over the years?? Did that make sense i hope???

It's built in the wood, so it won't change. Though the aging finish might bring it out more. Very nice guitar.

my taylor has a bit of this on part of the face too actually... I never really noticed it it's not as much as yours but it's there in a small patch in the middle/bottom of the top of the face.

looks pretty cool when it hits the light a certain way
