College graduation from my parents coming up soon, don't want them to pay more than $300 on an amp, what say you guys on this?

what kind of music are you playing, what kind of sound do you want? Are you trying to get a hendrix sound? a clapton sound? a mayer sound? etc.

Do you need effects? How loud do you need it to be? Gig worthy or practice?

the sound of a certain person i can't really say, this will be my first electric guitar as well as amp, i have chosen the schecter c1 blackjack as the guitar

i've been playing (acoustic) guitar for about four years, i started with dave's music but then expanded into playing a little of everything like i guess most people do. i don't know if i'm really leaning towards one type of sound over another, so perhaps an all purpose amp, if there is such a thing would be appropriate.

Small practice and studio tube amp
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=487825

Bigger and louder and really good tube amp
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=480491

Not a tube amp like the others but lots and lots of effects to play with.

I would take your schecter to GuitarCenter and try and plug it into all these and see which sounds the best. It's all preference but the ones i gave you are good values.

Tooooooooooooooone! So much warmer and very natural sounding, I second the tube amp recommendation. They are also customizable as you can switch out tubes to get different sounds.

plus solid states amps may get some unwanted noise

if you do end up with a solid state amp, i heard bad things about the marshall mg series

3rd'd tube amps. I have a Fender Pro Junior, the much more simple version of the Blues Junior. 15 watts, 12AX7 tube preamp system and 6L6 tubes for the poweramp, sounds awesome as well and cranking it gives you a nice classic 60's distortion. If you are going to play blues and blues/rock then a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver will be a great pedal to plug into the amp. I play a Line 6 POD XT Live into my Fender Pro Junior with a Strat and it sounds great, loud enough for most smaller gigs.

Danny is right, tube amp is the real thing
But if u r tight on the budget, u can begin with a new solid state amp.

If it will become your life, u will definitely find yourself moving to the tubes

what do you want it for?

Recording? Gigging?

What kind of guitar do you have?
