i really like the vintage sound of a telecaster, and since i came into some money, im thinking about getting one.. i dont want to spend an arm and a leg on one though.. so i was wondering if anyone has one and can tell me what a decent one would cost

I have a telecaster and love it. The price depends on a lot of things: First, made in USA or mexico? You are looking at around 1000 for an american new ( i think highway 1's are cheaper) and about 400 for a new mexican.

I have to say if you are on a budget, getting a made in mexico and upgrading the pickups to either some vinatge noiseless or texas specials is the way to go. Other than the pickups, i haven't noticed a ton of difference between MIA and MIM. With a good setup, a MIM (made in mexico) will be every bit as playable as an american.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

if you don't want a mexican, the highway 1's are pretty nice and about 300 bucks cheaper. one of the big price differences comes from the finish. It's pretty much just a stripped down american.

I am soon to be getting a 72 Telecaster thinline reissue and fall in love every time I play it. For around 600-700 bucks you cant go wrong. And its made in mexico. Its got two humbuckers for a nice fat tone and the semi hollowbody makes it even fatter. Ill post pics when I get it
