Yeah, strings are very "personal", although elixir nanoweb seem to be the famous ones... (I've been using Martin medium gauge, and I am pretty happy with them).

I'm a fan of D'addario Phospher Bronze. I jump around a bit depending which guitar it is, but I normally stick to Lights.

any new (same range) uncoated strings will sound better then a new coated strings. but they lose there sound extremely quik, unlike the coated strings.

I found a website a couple of weeks ago where they sold really cheap strings that were supposedly comparable to elixer... I think they were selling them for $2.99... I can't find the site now though :(

I think you mean http://www.webstrings.com/

On another forum I post on, a lot of people swear by these strings. They are supposed to be very good, but I've yet to try them so I can't personally say whether they are not.

I like the elixers, but does anyone else have the problem of the coating peeling off? Also, my strings get dirty fast and it kills my fingers to do slides.

If it kills your fingers to slide on coated strings, it will kill your fingers to slide on all strings. It's not a string problem, it's a callous problem.
