Guitar Showdown: Taylor vs Martin Guitars
OK guys... I want to know your opinions- I have seen Dave play both Taylor guitars and Martin guitars. I have tried each. I'm not sure what to think. I like Taylors a lot, but I have only tried one Martin guitar, and I know that people say they are the best.
What do you guys think? Anyone play/have both? Any preferences? Which are the best?

Try doing a search, this has been brought up many times. The general consensus is to just pick your price range, go out and play every guitar, Martin, Taylor, etc., in that price range and pick the on the best suits you. You really cant know until you play them all and shouldnt take someone elses advice, preference, ear etc. as the main deciding factor for your own purchase.

You're right though , its pure lazyness not to just hit the search button first , the same topic will come again and again because people can't take 20 seconds off their time to hit that button and searchjsgksu wrote:I told ya so. I think Im gonna put "this topic has been brought up many times before, try doing a search" in my sig j/k, sorry newbies, just giving ya shit, welcome to the boards.cave_cricket wrote:wow...another one....

oh well....it's gonna happen so let's just let it....we can kindly remind them but let's still try to keep the chill atmosphere that we've grown accustomed to here at Tabs. We will help them out anyway.DustyDave wrote:You're right though , its pure lazyness not to just hit the search button first , the same topic will come again and again because people can't take 20 seconds off their time to hit that button and searchjsgksu wrote:I told ya so. So GuitarGuy, now that we got that out of our system for the week, what exactly are you wondering? You just feel like doing a poll of opinions or are you considering buying one. If you are looking to buy one, what kind of price range are you in? What kind of features do you want (i.e. cutaway, electronics, woods, etc...) Are you only interested only in Taylors and Martins? As much as we like to tell you to do a search its still fun sometimes to bring up the old topic. So be a little more specific unless youre just wondering the overall opinion of the members via the vote, and we'll be glad to help.

Yeah, I'm looking at buying a new guitar this summer-- I defiantly want a good one. (I have a Yamaha F-36S, Not too bad for $100, but not that great, either) I have looked at Taylors and Martins because I always hear they are the best. Price range is probably up to $1,300. I was hoping to get one with electronics, but its not necessary. Just looking for a great acoustic guitar that has good sound for DMB songs

My personal opinion for a Martin would be a Martin DC16RGTE or any Taylor in the 300 to 400 series if your looking for a guitar with electronics. Also the Martin I noted is a Dreadnought, is that the type of body you are looking to get? Anyway, if you dont want electronics your possibilities are a little bit bigger in that price range than a guitar with electronics. If youve already got a guitar and are serious about playing, I would suggest a cutaway acoustic electric so you can play lead and play out live/record when you get more serious into your playing. Check out those guitars, refine your search, play all the ones you can and post back here with more questions.
