Bose PS1 Personal Amplification System

Yes there has already been a thread on this, here is the link:
http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic ... light=bose

However I felt the need to resurface the topic and that thread is fairly old.

I have read every review on Bose's website and musicians friend for this system, and I wanted to see what you guys all thought about it.

They now package the subwoofer with the basic system and sell it for $2,000
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=602075

I have a few thoughts on the subject:

Pros:
1) I think this is the perfect setup for a solo acoustic singer/songwriter or even a duo or trio. It has the easiest setup af any PA system I've seen, and a very simple interface uncluttered with effects and all that other bullshit.
2) The "R1 remote" seems to me to be an absolutely great idea. You can adjust the level of the whole system, or just one of the channels, with low, mid, and high controls for each channel as well.
3) It seems extremely easy to transport, not to mention damn cool when set up.

Cons:
1) You pay out the ass for it.
2) I would be very afraid of knocking it over and it definetly doesnt seem as durable and sturdy as any other PA system out there.

If anybody would like to add to the list please do. Also I would love for someone to post an alternative PA system that would be as user friendly maybe without the price tag.

Thanks!

I heard one of these last weekend. Its absolutely amazing. I've never heard such a crisp and beautiful sound. I'm surprised its only $2k. I thought it would be alot more than that.

I haven't heard this particular system, so I can't speak specifically about it. However, generally, anything with a Bose logo on it is outrageously overpriced and underperforming. Bose has become a master at profiting on name recognition alone. There are so many MUCH better audio equipment manufacturers out there, you just never hear them talked about. With that said, the appeal of this system is more of its all-in-one deal without sacrificing quality. So, you'd have to balance the portability/ease of use with that of other, theoretically better-sounding systems and the price of each and figure out what works best for your exact needs.

the branding cost did cross my mind, but this is kind of out of their wheelhouse and i feel like they have not earned any name among live musicians yet, so this has potential. they say on their site that guitar centers have them in stock. the nearest one to me is a little more than a 40 minute drive, so ill make the trek someday soon

I've jammed around on these a few times and was very surprised, most of the newer bose stuff just dosn't sound that great for the price. Although like you said, this one is expensive, it's a great system and I would be willing to pay that much for it. I have heard a few people gig with these and that is were they really blew me away. One group, if I remember correctly, had 2 acoustic guitars, one vocalist, a cello, upright bass, and 2 violins all miced and plugged into one of those with the sub extension. You could hear every one of them and nothing seemed to get drowned out, and it was the same no matter were I stood in the room. I started doing research on these at that point and found out the real magic behind these things was the way bose designed these things to have a wider output then most amps. When you think of like a normal box amp system, the direction and spread of the outputed sound if very narrow. These on the other hand are not as confined and have the ability therefor to really fill a room. It really is an amazing system in my opinion considering how portable and simple it is to opperate. Any idiot can get an amazing mix out of this thing with multiple instruments. If you plan on hooking up a lot of stuff like the band I saw, it is with out a doubt in my mind worth it. You dont have to bring all the shit you normally do with a band that big, and IMO it sounded better then most sound systems that I hear in coffee houses. If you want to get it just for your voice and your guitar, I can't really say it would be a bad choice, it sounds great. But, I think you can get something much cheaper that will sound just as good for a smaller setup just for you. But If you are willing to pay that much, go for it, it's great. Exceeds my expectations with larger setups, really a great system in that light.

I feel like you would need 2 of them to get a nice stereo mix.

Quite loud. My brother ran a 5K where some guy was playing on one in the parking lot, easily 350 yards from where we watched him run and it was perfectly clear.

And Kahn, I agree with you. I get off on a good stereo mix.
