Lookin to pick up a beater

Unread post by Taylor614 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 7:04 pm

I was looking to pick up a cheap guitar to mess around with (different tunings). I am a freak when it comes to taking care of my guitars, so I just want to keep my Taylors (614ce & 714) in standard and Drop D tunings and that's it. I figured that I would pick up a beater to put in Raised B or something. I was looking at this guitar: Sigma DR-1ST. It has a solid top and Laminate Rosewood b/s. Should I pick one up? From what I have heard, Sigmas suck.

Obviously for $80, a playable instrument is a steal. However, I hear that Rogues are hit or miss...you might get a great guitar, or an absolute POS. If you are going to get a Rogue, I'd try to get it from a Guitar Center, or someplace where you can play it before you buy it.

Thanks for the tip. However, I think that I have decided to get an Alvarez AJ60-12. I've always wanted to get a 12 string guitar and this one looks pretty sweet. Does anyone have one? If you do, can you post an audio clip using it, so that I can here how it sounds.

That is a fantastic 12 string that i will be purchasing soon, the sound is very tight and punchy, reminds me of a taylor. My only complaint was the jumbo body is somewhat uncomfortable when playing standing up. However the body size gives it an incredible sound.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I'm not able to go and play one yet, and I'm not ordering off the internet. I just wanted to have an idea of what it sounds like.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom
