Experience using Taylor ES system with AER compact 60 ?

Experience using Taylor ES system with AER compact 60 ?

Anybody here have any experience using Taylor ES system with AER compact 60? I bought the amp a little while ago and have spent time with different settings. I can get a very impressive, natural acoustic sound when finger picking but struggle to get a sound I like when flat picking/ strumming. It's either very tinney at one end or very muddy mixed kind of sound at the the other..... One of the reasons I bought the Taylor and the AER was positive feedback from users but I've struggled to find any ES users who use the AER. Any suggestions?

It might just be the way the ES sounds, I didn't like it either, thats why my taylors have fishman pickups and blenders. Other then that, if it was a really early ES system when they first came out, they had a lot of problems. Check the date on your taylor, I think the ES came out in like 2003 didnt it? Anyway, sorry it did't work out, i don't know what else to say since I don't have much experience with the AER. I do know that they produce a very specific sound that is not for everyone. Although I have heard that it is very natural like you said, it apparently is hard to shape that sound. Thats why I can't say it enough when I say try stuff out before hand. Don't buy musical gear on impulse and good reviews. Although good reviews are a good place to start your search, you need to try stuff out. What sounds good to some people might sound like crap to someone else. Go into a guitar shop with your guitar and try some other amps with it or get your ES system checked out to see if it is the problem. I'm guessing that nothing is wrong, it's just not the amp for you or you're in the club that is not impressed with the ES, I'm the same way. Hope things work out, welcome to the bords.

Yeah the ESS came out in 2003 and there were some problems with the liquid coming out of the magnetic sensors on the underside of the top. Check the year and post some clips if you can, might help.

Guys...thanks for your help/ ideas..... elsewhere they've suggested an eq pedal to shape the sound before it hits the amp...

How is the action on the guitar? chances are if its fairly low, strumming chords would sound fairly muddy while more delicate fingerpicking would not.

I had the neck reset recently and the action lowered a little. I strum pretty hard at times and I rarely get fret buzz (after I put a quarter turn on the truss rod to give a little relief) so think actions ok. Someone elsewhere suggested dialing out the mid entirely and adding a little bass and treble..... Definately better but still muddy....puzzled!
