Urgent help with my Ultrasound

Unread post by sfmartins » Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:21 pm

Hey guys, I really need your help on this!

Today I got home and finally put my hands on my new Ultrasound, that I ordered from Germany!
The sound is amazing and it's definitely the best thing I've ever heard!

The issue is that there is a small buzz in one of the speakers at certain frequencies (when I play either open E, A or D). Not the others, even at high volumes. The buzz increases as I increase the sound.
It seems something is slightly loose, but I can't really see it, because of the front cover...

Can I open the front to take a look?
I really don't feel like shipping it back to Germany!!

Please help!

Thanks a lot guys!

Can't I just take the front cover out? Just to reach the speakers...

What can I do then?

all i kno is that you are never ever ever supposed to open an amp unless you are a professional. that being said if it were mine i would have the thing jacked up and in pieces, at risk of my life.

just dont say i didnt tell ya so.

and this is a good reason not to buy expsensive shit without playing it first, just for future reference.

that may have sounded douchebagish, it wanst intended that way. my heart goes out to you. good luck soldier

Thanks guys. :)

I know what you mean about buying without playing, but here in Portugal I don't have easy access to nice acoustic amps... And, since it's an electronic device, I was expecting it to sound as all the other ultrasounds! :) And it does!! It think it has suffered a little bump during its trip and something got a little loose. It's not much, but it's kind of annoying.

Anyway, I don't mean to open the back of the amplifier. I wanted to take out the cover of the speakers, and don't touch on the electrical stuff.
I just don't know how to take it out (if that is possible).

Thanks a lot guys. And thanks Sargent Praise! :)

So, does anyone know how to take the front cover of the Ultrasound out?

If it's easy, I'm gonna try to fix it myself. Otherwise, I need to ship it back...

errr... im just gonna say look for screws or nuts, they may require a strangely shaped bit to unscrew them to prevent people from opening the front.

does it make the noise if you just shake the amp? because if not it could be in the woofer, because i have alittle pignose portable and whenever i play a g sharp, in any octave, it shakes and rattles like a mofo. i went online and looked it up and aparently if the thickness of the speaker happens to have a natural frequency equal to that of a note then that can happen. poor planning by pignose.

It is definitely something to do with a ressonance frequency, because it only happens at certain frequencies (no need for very high volume). But it only happens in one speaker, so I guess something happened to it.

I've already sent the guys an email, and I'm not going to touch the electronic part, because it will void my warranty... I just wanted to take the front cover of the speakers, but there are no screws there. I think it is solidly glued and there's nothing I can do. If someone knows if this is possible on an Ultrasound I would be glad to know out to do it. Otherwise I'll just wait to see if the guys can send me a new one and I give this one back.
By the way, is this the normal procedure? I mean, they send me another one and I give this one to the guy that comes to deliver the package?

Thanks a lot again. It's great to have this help!

i dont know about their policies but usually they make you send it back and once they recieve it and fiddle around with it themselves they will send you a working one... no trust any more :)

That may not be enough if your amp has capacitors. They look like silver tubes and they store a lot of charge. Just to let you know I touched one the size of a cigarette filter from a disposable camera and it knocked me on my ass! I would recommend having a pro look at it seriously, you could die because there is so much current running through those things. If you do decide to mess with it just remember to only use one hand at a time and keep the other one behind your back so that you dont complete a circuit. That way it you do get shocked it will only burn your hand but not stop your heart...

Seriously have a pro look at it.

Thanks guys. For sure the amp has huge condensers that take several hours to discharge after unplugging. So I'm definitely not gonna touch the electrical stuff.

I just wanted to take the cover of the speakers to check if I see something vibrating.

For now I'll just wait for the guys answer...

Thanks a lot for the advice!
