buying a new guitar...

Unread post by buffjam9011 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 1:28 pm

well my roomate broke my guitar, but it was a cheap yamaha starter and it's about time i got a new guitar anyhow... i have a limit of around $700. i was playing some guitars at guitar center and i really like the martin dx1 and taylor 110e, the only thing i wish the dx1 had was electronics. i had never felt a taylor before and the spacing between strings felt kind of odd but i can't say i didn't like it... can anyone give me more info on these guitars or maybe other recomendations? thanks

given your current info all I can say is the dx1 a hundred times over the 110. not that i think its a bad guitar, i actually really like it for a low end guitar, but it isnt as good

please read through herem, it will answer all of your questions

i would get the dx1 if you like it, and put electronics in later when you have the $$$

i honestly don't know the scematics of those guitars. I know I played one of the d1 series and was very suprised with how it sounded. over all in the price range you are looking in, you are better off looking in other brands and gettiing a solid wood guitar.

Not necessarily so. I don't own one personally, so I don't know if they crap out on you or something, but I have a few friends with DX1s and they're very happy with them. I've played them and they felt and sounded great to me, plus it's a nice looking guitar.

I played someone from the board's dx1 (im almost possitive it was a dx1) and it sounded great, not as full or clean as lets say a d35, but it did have that bass martins are known for and, although not as playable as most, i thoguht it was still more playable than other guitars in its price range.

see that just my opinion, i think if youre gonna buy a guitar that pricey, buy something thats gonna age gracefully and grow with you... that fuckin mpl or w/e will be the same in 50 yrs as it is now, and worth not a penny more

thats just how i feel... i think its a mental thing for me...

I agree with praisedave. I think martin is the best, but for the price you pay for the X series, there are better choices out there, especially in terms of the materials used (wood mainly).

Anyway, I would try to find a nice used guitar, or wait to increase my budget to buy a better Martin.
