MBox 1 vs MBox2

I'm having hard time finding review of the MBox1 vs MBox2. Im buying one soon and Im wondering it's the MBox 2 is worth the money, because its just about 2ce as expensive as the older version.

Well, the only real difference between the two is that the MBOX2 has Midi capabilities, other then that they are the same I think. If you don't plan on doing midi stuff then look for a good deal on the original.

Is there anything particularily awful about the MBox that is known? Does it have any serious competitors? I'm done some research and was led right to it...

What are you going to be using it for? With the Mbox you're paying a premium for ProTools, which is very advanced (it's what's used in recording studios) and has a fairly steep learning curve. There are definitely better values out there.

ProTools is whats used in studios? thats pretty cool. i guess i thought everything was done manually, i dont know why i thought that. Thanks for the tidnit brock.

Protools is a very complicated program only because it has the capability to do so much, most of which most ppl. will never use. It is actually a very easy program to learn to use just to do basic recording and stuff, it just has the capability to do more then the average program. I'm not aware of any bugs with the original MBOX. It's a great system and comes with one of the best programs out there. Competition wise, look into some of the M-Audio stuff, it's a branch off of creative and although I have not use any of their stuff I hear alot of good things.

correction, m-audio is a subsidiary of avid, of which digidesign is also a subsidiary. (digidesign makes the mbox.) i love m-audio products, they're great and very inexpensive and nowadays you can use them with protools too.

Be careful with some of these boxes. I know some of them are not bit-perfect, probably due to the package sending of USB. Firewire is better if you can swing it.

Well, I want to record a CD with my and my guitar and then get some people to come in and record other instruments on it and stuff. I've got all the gear I need pretty much but I just need that device that'll let me plug it into my comp.

The reason I think the MBox would work for me is because it does come with ProTools which seems like it can do everything. Its just going to be a matter of learning how to use it. I've used Cubase before, Im sure it wont be much different.

Im going to call up a local store to see if they're selling the original MBox then. Cause I really have no need for the MIDI in the MBox2. I dont understand why i'ts $250 more expensive just for MIDI features... who uses MIDI now-a-days anyways?

You might want to have a look at the Focusrite Saffire. I think it's in about the same price range and it's firewire.

But if you want something studio quality then look at the Apogee Mini-me. Obviously it's alot more expensive because it has the all hailed apogee preamps.

It's $250 more expensive because the Mbox doesn't exist anymore; I couldn't find it anywhere online, and any stores that have it it will be on clearance.

Yes, if you can find an Mbox 1 buy it! They are extremely hard to come across! If you search for 'Mbox' on google, you will only find the Mbox 2. Try some local shops, or ask friends if they know where you can buy one. It will be cheap because the Mbox 2 came out. For instance, I could probably get a Gameboy (original) for free if I searched hard enough. Why? Because the new ones came out and replaced it. In its days, I remember the original Gameboy was the coolest thing in the world. Thats just a little example about how the price of things drop if they are replaced with a newer version. But I think an Mbox 1 will be your best bet if you can find one!
