Larrivee Love

Unread post by RunsWithBuffalo » Wed Feb 08, 2006 12:13 am

So ever since my ibanez started not ringing out any notes between the 11th and 13th fret, I have decided i need a new guitar. I'm pretty set on the larrivee 03 series but i dont know what shape to get. I love small bodied guitars but they are not great for recording so I have been looking at the D-03RE and the L-03RE. Do any of you have these guitars and can you speak to their sound? Is the L more comfortable than a normal dread? And can I get these with a normal pickguard and not a clear one?

Thanks guys
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

I have an L-03R and I find that it's more comfortable to play than a dread.

Ya, I have an OM body style. Trust me, you do not lose any sound quality because of a smaller body. That is the genious of Jean Larrivee's craftsmanship. I think my OM would dominate any Taylor or Martin double its price easily. You re making a great choice. All the 2005s and up come with a normal pickguard.
Mine is a 2001, hence the clear pickguard. I like it better though. Whichever one suits you. Plus if you find one with a clear pickguard, you can always buy another one for cheap.

Thanks guys

I played a D-03R today, God what a monster of a sound, Martin can go to hell, This thing had bass but it wasnt overpowering like a D-28, much more balanced and it was less than a thousand.

I am taking a hard look at the D-03E. Anyone know a place I can find one under a grand. The internet isn't producing too many results unless I drive to Colorado of California (I'm in PA by the way).

Elderly Instruments has it for $905

http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/D03E.htm

I would seriously consider getting it without the pickup, it will be cheaper to begin with plus you can add a better one later without cutting a hole in the side of the guitar. The shop that i was at had the D-03R (Rosewood) for $975, i think electronics were another 250 which seems high.

If you don't mind buying over the net and having it shipped I'd recommend http://www.guitaradoptions.com.

I'm looking at Larivée as a likely choice when I buy my next guitar. I can't wait.
