Looking at some guitars..

Unread post by MakoMako » Mon Jan 09, 2006 7:59 pm

Hi, I just signed up a couple of minutes ago actually. I've been coming to this website for a while now, and thanks to this website, I can play So Much To Say, What Would You Say, Satellite, Warehouse, and Rhyme and Reason.

I personally think as far as Dave songs go, I'm not coming along too bad, but that's not my point. I've looked at a couple of guitars lately, since I'm considering getting a new one in the future some time, at the latest my senior year in highschool.

The guitars I've been looking into were:

Chet Atkins SST (Gibson or Epiphone)
A couple of Takamine's (I'm open for suggestion)
and A Gibson Blues King
http://www.gibson.com/Products/Gibson%2 ... es%20King/

Anyway, those are really it. I've also been looking at a few pre-amps, or at least looking into getting one, but I know nothing about them, and I'm open for any advice.

I wanna thank everyone in advance who even reads this. Sorry for being a hassel my first day. O.o

You should make up your mind about which type of guitar you want. The Chet is a way different guitar than a normal acoustic and unless you in need of something that's not going to have feedback issues I would say you'd be better served with a standard acoustic.

Thanks for the replies.

As far as money goes.. it shouldn't be a big problem. I'll be saving up for a while, and my parants offered to pay for the rest if need be, that's why if I got the Chet Atkins, it'd most likely be the Epiphone.

As far as how different they are, I wouldn't mind any of them. I just want a guitar that would be able to perform well on stage, whether or not it would be plugged in or through a VA system. I've been looking at the Chet Atkins for a while out of curiosity, which makes me want to try one out long before I decide.

I think my question should have been, "What do you think of these guitars?" and as for the Takamine, I'm just curious about some Acoustic/Electric guitars that work both-ways quite well.

I'm sorry for being so difficult about all of this.

I don't have any personal experience with there a few people here who play Taks and love them. If I'm not mistaken all the vids here http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=12809 are done with a Tak. If your looking for something that is going to do well plugged and unplugged then you should definately try a Chet before buying because they don't have much volume unplugged due to the design.

I have a Tak and I cannot recommend it enough. Good luck in the search, ask whatever questions you need to.

Taks are great. For the price of an upper end Tak, you can also look at a Martin 000. I looove mine.

Thanks for all of the replys guys. I'm leaning more and more at looking into some Takamines now. I was looking at the Chet for a while, and I'd heard alot of interesting things about it. But I do defintaly want something closer to a classic steel-string.

I'd like to get something that sounded fine unplugged, but I'm still not gonna count anything out since I've got some time to consider this after all.

I'm gonna go on a limb and assume that most people here agree that the Blues King is the better choice all-around. Well, if I were to get that, or perhaps a normal acoustic Tak, what sort of pickup could I use for it?
