Unread post by olkskoolpik » Fri May 02, 2003 7:53 am

I was just wondering if you guys had played a Dean before, I really like the looks of this guitar and I am thinking about buying it. I can get it for $399 and I was just wondering if you guys knew what the list price for one of these was, thanks.

i play a cheapy beginner dean and it is awsome. i bang the crap out of it and it has held up. i think deans sound really awesome and look great too. they play really nice and the price is not too shaby. now my crappy beginner guitar is not the one in question just to clarify. not bashin your guitar at all. i am actually really thinkin bout getting an exotica as well. they come w/ fishman pickups in 'em and look awesome. ive heard good things about them. i have heard that if you order online, you may have to get a serious set up done when you get it and that correspondence w/ dean is kinda crappy but i think the guitars are great. lemme know what you think if you get it. adios.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

never seen a rosewood top guitar :| ...didnt think that would be used. i doubt it will sound as good as a spruce top with rosewood sides. it doesnt say if its laminate or solid either. ask the dean people before you buy.

If it's a solid-wood guitar, I bet it's heavy as CRAP.

wow, thats heavy

my friend that i jam with all the time plays a dean performer e, i dont know if thats comparable to this at all, its pretty basic- but for a basic guitar they sure made it easy to play, and it looks cool as hell... little rougher sounding and better for picking then it is for strumming, but again i have no idea if thats what this one is like

cool guitar though

I can't say enough good things about Dean Guitars. I play an Exotica QSE SP, and I'v never played anything else that seemed to be worth the extra grand or so they would cost. I can't comment on the Andes though, because that that type of wood is going to create a completely different sound that my sitka spruce/maple combo. As far as Deans being heavy, above guy hit the nail on the head. I've never held a guitar that felt more solid than they do. That was actually one of my biggest turn offs about Martins, is the fact that they just felt like toys (Im gonna hear for that one) in my hands. I've played D-28's, 35's, and lots of others, and they all just feel....well, cheap.......even though I know they are great guitars. But to answer your question, Deans have my approval 100%.

Do you mean heavy as weight or heavy/deep sound. Just curious b/c solid wood guitar are much lighter (weight wise) than laminated ones.
