The Schwag Thread

Unread post by brian_ok » Mon Dec 12, 2005 4:07 pm

I saw this on another site...it was for climbing gear, but same deal.

Post a mini-review of any gear that you have. Maybe this will turn into a decent resource, maybe not. Whatev.

Maybe do gear other than guitars, since half of the threads in this forum, and general guitar discussion are guitar reviews. include a picture if you can! Thanks.
I'll go first:

Korg PXR4 4-track recorder

Image

Price: I paid $250 for this, some nice headphones, a small monitor, 2 mics, and 2 mic stands.

Quality: This thing has held up very well for almost a year (got it Christmas '04), no complaints here. The on-board mic is low quality, but I never intended to use the on-board mic for recording.

Specifics: 4 track recorder, with an additional 7 virtual tracks on each track...32 track total. 1 track recording at a time, which can be circumvented with a $.75 mono-stereo converter from Radio Shack. Records to a Smart media card, but has USB connection for easy computer hookupedness.

Recommendations: This is the perfect thing for me, at least right now. As I become more serious about recording, and get more money, I will probably sell this and buy a 16-24 track recorder with an onboard CD burner.

DigiTech RP200A Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal

Image

Image

Price: I paid $120 for this, tag price was $160.

Quality: Since this thing gets stepped on, it's obviously very durable. This is typical of any well-made pedal though. I like the small amount of knobs and the digital menus, because there are fewer small things on the board that could get broken by a stray, well, foot. Some people hate digital menus though. The wah/adjust pedal is one of the best that I've played; it's very smooth. This was important to me, as I'm a huge fan of the wah sound.

Specifics: I use my american strat with this, and it's a great combination. It has several amp and preamp settings, as well as all the standard effects. You can control the magnitude, gain, and volume of each setting. Digitech products have a distinctively digital type sound (hence the name...), as opposed to, say, Boss and Ibanez electronics. Line 6 has a similar digital sound. This is neither a good thing or bad thing. I prefer the digital sound, which is part of the reason that I purchased a Digitech product.

Recommendations: I would recommend this highly as an inexpensive but powerful tool. I have made a shift in my style to much more acoustic, but I still use this almost every day. If I had had $150 more, I probably would have bought a Line 6 PodXT Live. This, however, is exactly what I needed/need...something inexpensive yet competent. (read, excellent.)

Also...please review some of your schwag!
