Amp Gurus?

Unread post by matonfan101 » Mon Dec 12, 2005 2:24 am

Hey all

I'm looking into buying a nice amp for my electric in the future (preferably valve), and I already have all my effects and pedals setup, so I figure I don't need an amp with multiple- or even any- 'drive' or overdrive channels. I'm thinking just a single channel, simple but with great tone.

I know marshall make a few like this (JCM 900's, JTM reissues etc), but I can't really find any other well known (or little known) brands that do a similiar thing.

I like my fender amp that I've got for my acoustic and it seems that generally fenders are considered to be pretty good valve amps, so I've looked at the Hot Rod's etc, but they all seem like a waste as they've all got overdrive built in...

so if anybody has any ideas or any other recomendations of amps I'de be keen to hear!

cheers

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

whats your price range? if you really want a 1 channel amp, and youre willing to pay around $2k, Orange amps are phenomenal.

Nah, thats slightly too expensive! Especially as thats American $ (I'm in Aus) that'de be like $3000 here or something. Maybe in the future if I'm in need of something bigger.

I was thinking more in the price range of the Fender Hot rods or the Marshalls, and not too big either- probably 30-60W. Probably a combo too.

thanks anyway

The fender reverb amps are great. I have a 65 Twin Reverb reissue and it is wonderful. Very clean tone, 2 channels (1 clean, 1 reverb/vibrato). It sounds amazing and doesn't start really overdriving until the high volumes. At 85 all tube Watts this thing is loud. I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a good blues, jazz, country, or even rock amp.

EDIT: I bought mine used on ebay.com for about $800 after shipping and handling.
