Alright so I have mainly been an accoustic guitar player. I have played an electric guitar maybe 1 or 2 times in my life. I recently got an urge to buy one and start playing a little more hard rock or classic rock. So obviously I know very little about them.
What things do I need to look for in an electric?
Is the amp as important, less or more important than the guitar?
What do you know about Cort electric guitars?
Thanks in advance guys.
Question about electric guitars
i havetn played an electric in years. i just have an old strat i bought when I was 16.
One thing I suggest is knowing what sound you want and see what guitars make that sound and play them. I mean, if i want to play the blues my strat is great, but anythign else it is pretty weak.
If I were to suggest anythign for a first electric i'd say en epiphone SG or an epiphone les paul.
i wouldnt think you'd need a great amp rigth away cause its not like you'll be playign shows, so i'd think a small 12" tube amp would suffice till you learned mroe and got a chance to buy and experiment with soem pedals.
just my 2 centabalos

Having a good amp is more important than having a good electric guitar.
Example: If i plugged a squire strat into a Vibro King or Twin Reverb or any other high quality amp, its going to sound pretty good. On the other hand, if you plug that same guitar into a 40 dollar amp, its going to sound like crap. The same goes with expensive guitars and crappy amps. If you plug a custom shop strat into a 40 dollar amp its going to sound like crap, but if you plug it into a better amp, you'll begin to hear the difference
The amp is whats responsible for producing the sound.
In my opinion, I'd try to buy either one thats quality (like either buy a really good guitar and a decent amp or a not so good guitar and an awesome amp.) That way, when/if you decide to upgrade, you wont have to upgrade both your amp and your guitar, because you'll already have one thats really nice.

The amount of money you spend on an amp depends on what you want. First thing is tube or solid state. Its just an opinion but most people prefer tube amps. I myself don't have one and like mine. If you are just looking for something to practice with look for something like 30watt. look for one that has a 2nd channel for "dirtier" sound unless you have some stomp boxes. Your price range will depend on these factors but you could probably find one that will work for your situation from about $180-300.
