Digidesign MBox with ProTools Software

Unread post by Nitro1515 » Sat Sep 17, 2005 1:34 pm

I'm seriously thinking about investing in one of these so I can record some quality tracks instead of using my current method of a desktop mic. Does anyone here have it, or familiar with it? It goes for about 350-400 bucks. Also is there a cheaper alternative that I'm not aware of?
Here is the link for it: http://www.digidesign.com/products/mbox/

I have been recording on my PC for a while using my creative sound card (audigy 2 platinum pro, 24bit, its really nice) with a shure mic. This semester i'm taking a recording class at school and they gave us a mac laptop with an MBox and protools so we can go around and record things. I have only been using it for a bout 2 weeks and i have recorded guitar, voice, piano, drums, trupets, im impressed with the little thing. Without spending $500 dollars on a complicated setup (like mine at the moment, its records great it just took a little while to get it all working) this is a great portable setup, i would say go for it, from what i've done with it it's great. As for protools, if you have never used it before, buy a DVD that shows you how to use it, protools is an excelent program with lots of options but for someone who has never messed with the program (like me) it has been difficult figuring it out, even with a prof. guiding me through the steps. but ya, go for it i would say, im impressed with it. If you want i can get you the name of the DVD we have been watching in class, it's very helpful and is done by a guy that works at digidesign and practically invented protools and the digidesign 002 (which, by the way, the 002 is an excelent mixer if you are in the market for one).

a cheaper solution is getting an M-audio unit.

The Mbox 2 is out now, i would get the newer model. It is 50 bucks more on http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... =tp?q=mbox than the older one but im sure it is worth it.

the mbox 2 is the most retarded looking device ive seen. i have a regular mbox and i like it ALOT. especially with all the plugins it comes with, you can record and master anything. get it, it is worth it. by the way, whats differant about the mbox 2 besides it looking so lame?

Can you hook up both a keyboard and a guitar on the mbox 1, because it doesnt look like it has a MIDI input on it which the Mbox 2 does have.

come on its not that bad looking. all you need it for is to record not for decoration. if i were you Nitro i would really read about the mbox and mbox 2 and see if there are any upgrades in the mbox 2.
